The Big Summer Bike Drop

Re-Cycle (Bikes to Africa) is launching The Big Summer Bike Drop—a national call-to-action to donate unwanted bikes before the end of August. With Re-Cycle’s partnership with Halfords gradually winding down, this summer may be the final opportunity to donate via your local store.

If Halfords is your nearest drop-off point, now’s the time to act.

Your Unwanted Bike Could Change a Life

Re-Cycle collects unwanted bikes from across the UK and ships them to rural communities in Africa, where they are more than just transport—they’re lifelines. From school runs and hospital visits to carrying goods to market, these bikes open up opportunity and independence for people with limited access to transport.

Find a Drop-Off Point or Start Your Own

Re-Cycle works with a growing UK-wide network of donation points - including local bike shops, garden centres, and small businesses. Donating is easy: simply find your nearest drop-off point at re-cycle.org and drop your bike off by 31 August.

Want to do more? You can hold your own mini collection or even become a drop-off point yourself. If you’ve got space to store donated bikes, Re-Cycle can help with collection and promotion.

Why It Matters - Here and Abroad

Every year, thousands of bikes in the UK are sent to landfill or left to rust. By donating, you’re keeping valuable resources in use, reducing waste, and supporting a circular economy -while helping communities across Africa thrive.
