Craft Activity: Pasta Stamps

Every child likes playing with stamps and this is a great way to make some with materials we have at home. Two activities for the price of one!

Pasta Stamps Craft Activity

Making pasta stamps is a creative way for children to experiment, develop their motor skills and learn and talk about printmaking.

Note: This activity is not recommended for under 3s due to choking risk linked to dry pasta. An adult should always be present whilst enjoying this activity. Please explain to your child that dry pasta is not to be eaten.

Materials you will need:

  • Glass or anything to make a circle
  • Pasta (any type)
  • Scissors
  • Liquid glue (strong)
  • Pen
  • Cardboard
  • Playdough (see recipe for homemade, edible playdough: https://youtu.be/RQhgseaIpxY)

Method:

  1. Choose with your child the size of the stamps you want to make and take the appropriate glass size.
  2. Place the glass on the cardboard and draw a circle round it.
  3. Carefully cut out the circle. This makes the baseplate for your stamp.
  4. With the remains of the cardboard cut two small squares. Glue them together.
  5. Glue the squares onto the circle to make a handle for your stamp. Let the glue dry.
  6. Choose some pasta pieces and glue them onto the circle stamp baseplate. Make any shapes and designs you like with your pasta. Your stamps are ready!

You can also use beans or rice to make patterns on the stamps. Instead of playdough, experiment with paints and paper to create colour prints!
