REVIEW: Biggest Summer of History at Warwick Castle
Upon our arrival at the castle, we were welcomed into the Courtyard where we presented our tickets and entered the grounds.
First stop was the Zog play area, which was met with great excitement from my seven-year-old, who has loved Zog since he got the first book! – The play area was eye catching and colourful and had something for children of all ages including swings, climbing areas, slides, and a zip wire. The play area was enclosed and despite being plentiful, was in a relatively small area, minimising the potential panics of a child wandering off a bit too far in all the excitement. There is also an area where you can purchase refreshments in the park, which is very useful if you are going to be there a while, which, inevitably, we were.
After my son had finally allowed us to leave the play area (a lot longer than planned!), we entered the beautiful castle grounds and were met with peacocks strolling around and the beautiful scenery of trees and nature, which Warwick Castle prides itself on.
Having seen the schedule of shows available to us and not being able to narrow it down, we had a spare hour before the first show, the Falconer’s Quest began, so went to get a drink and something to eat. – There was a wide variety of ‘street food’ and drinks stalls, so we collected our food and settled on the grass to watch the first show.
The Falconer’s Quest was a brilliant show that we watched from across the river on a hill, which made seeing everything easy and despite there being lots of people, it didn’t seem massively crowded because of this.
After this, we headed to the Woodland Theatre to watch the Zog Live Show and afterwards, Horrible Histories – Wicked Warwick…
The seating had been set up so children could watch the show right in front of the stage on beanbags and for adults, there were picnic tables available to watch the shows.
Zog Live was a brilliant show, full of colour and following the story in the book concisely, meaning that younger children wouldn’t lose attention and older children would enjoy the fun of it all.
A must see for us was Horrible Histories – Wicked Warwick, which did not disappoint! We are great fans of Horrible Histories, and the show was educational, amusing for all ages and generally entertaining whilst focusing on the rich history of Warwick Castle and the surrounding area.
The War of the Roses is a Warwick Castle classic, which never fails to be entertaining with the audience very much in ‘battle mode’ before the show even starts having to pick a side to support in the battle! The show was beautifully put together with beautiful and authentic costumes all adding to a great drama.
Included with the standard ticket price was Zog Live, Horrible Histories, Falconer’s Quest, Tales from the Princess Tower, and War of the Roses. – We just about had enough time to enjoy four of these so wish we’d arrived a bit earlier!
Overall, this was an action-packed day out for the whole family to enjoy and it’s safe to say you can be fully entertained for the whole day!
