Review: The Jolly Christmas Postman at Royal & Derngate
Review by: Ally Richmond, Toddle About West Northants
We had the absolute pleasure of going along to the Jolly Christmas Postman last night at Royal & Derngate, Northampton.
What a total treat for all of us, my three (who are 8, 6 and 4) have been read the book since they were little, as did I, I was bought the book for Christmas when I was 2! My eldest being 8 now I was slightly concerned he'd be on the cusp of a little too old for this performance but boy was I wrong. It is utterly mesmerising for all ages.
From start to finish the beautifully written show captivated all the children in the audience. If you're familiar with the book, the Jolly Christmas Postman goes on his Christmas deliveries to various nursery rhyme houses along his route. Each one of these is a little treat to be a part of.
My youngest was giggling her head off at the gingerbread boy, my middle has now asked for a baby bear (the specific one from the show) for Christmas and my eldest (along with myself) found Humpty Dumpty the funniest part. To end with finding himself in a storm and then at Father Christmas's workshop, captivated the magic of Christmas for my littles.
Each little story within the show was so beautifully created and performed. A really funny, fun, delightful hour which is perfectly long enough to feel immersive but not let the littles get too fidgetty. It was the perfect start to our Christmas. If you can make it to a performance definitely do, for all ages it is magical.
Various performances still available until New Years Eve. Book your tickets now at https://www.royalandderngate.co.uk/whats-on/the-jolly-christmas-postman/
